Lightweight but oddly shaped, durability doubtful

Airlines have a bewildering variety of restrictions on carry-on luggage, and some international airlines place absurdly low limits on the size and/or weight of carry-ons. The Antler Duolite comes close to meeting the requirements of most airlines, though like nearly all carry-ons it is slightly longer than what is allowed on many airlines. It is indeed Super Light, weighing two pounds less than a similarly-sized bag I also bought, the Victorinox Luggage Werks Traveler 4.0 Ultra-Light Carry-On Bag. How does it manage this?
The main source of the lightness is the use of a partial plastic shell instead of the heavier woven nylon. I was disappointed, however, to find that the shell is quite thin and does not cover the back of the bag the way the product description would have you believe. I attached several photos...
